Boil Water Notice 2/16/21
Due to a severe freezing condition, the water system has been impacted. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Freeport Water System ID# 0200005 to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption for the next several days. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice. Lab results should be back Tuesday evening. If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Jerry Meeks, Veolia Water at 979-233-4281.
We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you from the City of Freeport.

City Council to Correct Ordinance Calling May 1 Election
The deadline for filing for office for Council person for Wards B and D and Mayor is Friday February 12, 2021 at 5p.m. At the January 19 City Council meeting, council adopted an ordinance calling for the election on May 1. During the meeting Mayor Bass amended the Ordinance, mistakenly setting the deadline for filing for office as March 1st. According to state law which governs local elections held on the uniform election date, the deadline for filing is set as February 12 and may not be changed.
In making his calculations for the deadline, Mayor Bass inadvertently used language from an old ordinance to calculate the date. “It was my intention to be as accurate as possible in making the amendment, but was mistaken in doing so in that way”, Mayor Bass said. Even though the ordinance was amended incorrectly at the meeting, ALL dates and notices for the upcoming election have been accurately posted in a timely manner dating back to the first legal posting on December 14,2020
Mayor Bass has requested a special City Council meeting on January 25th to correct the ordinance.
